Laser Facials
Are laser treatments safe?
Yes, very safe! Our providers specialize exclusively in cosmetic laser and use state-of-the-art equipment from the top, leading laser manufacturer. All technology is strictly used under the supervision of physicians at the forefront of clinical research in this field. Your skin is in good hands at Cleo.
Are laser treatments worth it?
Yes! Whether you're trying to clear up your skin, remove body hair, reverse signs of aging, or get rid of that old tattoo, laser is the gold standard for reaching your skincare goals. All of the skin concerns we care about originate in the deep layers of the skin that can't be accessed with simple topical products and superficial treatments. We started Cleo to build skincare protocols that actually work.
Do laser treatments hurt?
No, most people describe a moderate tingling sensation with heat buildup that is noticeable but not painful. We specialize in non-invasive laser treatments that don't come with any of the crazy side effects that you may get when you visit most plastic surgery offices. Though everyone reacts uniquely to laser, we will work with you to minimize any discomfort that you experience during your treatment.
Which laser facial is right for me?
Both of our signature laser facials are well tolerated by all ages, textures and tones. We recommend that all of our guests start their journey with the Glass Skin Laser Facial, and form a monthly routine. The Skin Shield Laser Facial is our most advanced laser facial. Best results are achieved with 3-4 treatments per year.
What can I expect during my first laser facial?
After you arrive you will be paired up with an expert laser technician who will review your medical history, understand your specific goals and prep your skin for treatment. The actual laser component of the appointment is very quick and won’t exceed 15 minutes. Our laser facials are tolerated very well and customers generally describe them as “low-to-no-discomfort”. After your technician is finished with the laser, they will cool down your skin and apply a protective balm. Finally, your provider will create a customized treatment protocol to achieve your skin goals. Our facials don’t require any downtime. You will be able to resume normal activities after each session, but you will be given specific advice, such as avoiding sun or using harsh skincare products over the next few days.
Do laser facials really work?
We created Cleo out of deep frustration with the state of modern skincare. The dirty secret of this industry is that 90% of topical skincare products either don’t work at all or only work at a superficial level. All of the skin concerns we care about- be that wrinkles, acne, sun damage etc. originate in the deep layers of the where topical products can’t access (aka. beyond the epidermis). Laser is the gold standard for reaching these deep layers and addressing your skin concerns right at the source. The clinical literature on the efficacy of laser is vast and unfortunately the same cannot be said for most topical products. Historically, laser treatments have only been within reach for celebrities in Los Angeles - but with Cleo, this is no longer the case.
What types of facials do you offer at Cleo?
We offer two laser facials.
The Glass Skin Laser Facial is the foundation to any evidence-based skincare routine and a perfect place to start your journey with laser. This procedure utilizes our Nd:YAG laser, which penetrates deep into the skin where concerns live. Due to its unique wavelength, the Nd:YAG laser can treat a wide variety of concerns ranging from acne, even skin tone, and anti-aging. The laser safely vaporizes dirt and excess oil as well as stimulates the skin’s natural healing process to trigger the production of collagen and elastin.
The Skin Shield Pico Laser Facial is the most advanced laser facial available in the market today, taking inspiration from next-gen beauty clinics in South Korea. Laser energy is delivered in incredibly short pulses (one trillionth of a second) to deep layers of the skin, reversing and preventing signs of aging including wrinkles & fine lines as well as acne scarring, sun damage and brown spots. This facial is the ultimate treatment for people looking for both preventative and corrective treatments.
Who performs the laser facials at Cleo?
We pair our are customers with expert laser technicians who operate under the supervision of physicians. All treatment protocols are individualized by providers who specialize exclusively in energy based treatments. We use energy based devices so that we can ensure the highest quality and best experience possible.
What device do you use for laser facials?
We use a Candela Nd:YAG laser from for our Glass Skin Laser Facial and the Candela Picoway Resolve for our Skin Shield Laser Facial.
Are laser facials painful?
No, most people describe a moderate tingling sensation with heat buildup that is noticeable but not painful. With this being said, pain is relative, and rest assured we will work with you to minimize any discomfort that you experience during treatment.
Do laser facials have downtime?
No, you will return to normal daily activities immediately after your session. Some customers may experience slight redness for a short time after the treatment, but these effects are minimal.
How long does a laser facial treatment take?
Super quick! Our treatments have been designed so that you can be in and out in only 15-20 minutes, for maximum efficiency.

Laser Hair Removal
What can I expect during my first laser hair removal treatment?
After you arrive you will be paired up with an expert laser technician who will review your medical history, understand your goals, and prep your skin for treatment. The actual laser component of the appointment is super quick and may only last a couple of minutes depending on how many areas you are looking to get treated and the size of those areas. Our Candela Gentlemax Pro Plus will target your hairs’ follicles, emitting pulses of light that heat up the hair follicles and inhibit future hair growth. Laser Hair Removal is tolerated very well and customers generally describe it as “low-to-no-discomfort”. We use a cryo device to cool your skin concurrent with the laser to minimize any discomfort. After the treatment, your provider will walk you through all aftercare next-steps and book your next appointment at a time that maximizes your results. In the days following treatment, you may experience some redness and swelling in the treated area, but this typically subsides within a few hours to a day. You may also notice that some of the hair has been singed or fallen out immediately after the treatment, but full results will take a few weeks to become apparent as the treated hair gradually sheds.
What type of laser is used for hair removal?
We use the industry leading Candela GentleMax Pro Plus for laser hair removal. The Gentlemax Pro Plus contains two different lasers of which we’ll use one depending on your skin color. (Alexandrite or Nd:YAG), both of which are FDA cleared and possess the deepest clinical validation of any laser hair removal device in the world.
Is laser hair removal safe? What are the risks of laser hair removal?
Yes, laser hair removal is very safe. With this being said, there is a possibility of side effects with any aesthetic procedure. However, these are typically short term (only lasting a few days). Laser hair removal technology has advanced rapidly over the past decade and risks that were present years ago with legacy devices like IPL “Intense Pulse Light” are no longer a concern assuming that the proper pre and post care instructions are adhered to.
Does laser hair removal really work?
Yes, laser hair removal is the most effective form of permanent hair reduction. Removing 95% of total hair by damaging the underlying follicles. At home devices that utilize IPL and Diodes do not provide permanent results. Though these at home devices do not have FDA approval or vast clinical literature, experts typically point to as little as a 50% temporary reduction. We stand by our technology and providers and will provide a lifetime guarantee.
How permanent is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is the most effective form of permanent hair reduction, removing 95% of total hair by damaging the underlying follicles. In some cases, hair growth can resume in patches if you experience hormonal changes in the years following your treatments. For this reason, we don’t recommend laser hair removal to women during pregnancy. We provide free touch-ups to those that experience re-growth after completing 8 sessions.
Is laser hair removal safe & effective on dark skin?
Yes, it is safe & effective on darker skin. Technology has advanced significantly over the past decade. We use the GentleMax Pro Plus, which uses two different lasers - the Alexandrite for lighter skin tones and the Nd:YAG for darker skin tones. If you have dark skin and are looking to get laser hair removal, please make sure that you are not going to a clinic that offers Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) as this method is not safe on dark skin.
How effective are at home laser hair removal devices?
Let us set the record straight, most products marketed as “at home laser hair removal” are not lasers. The most common devices use intense pulsed light (IPL) for temporary hair reduction. The clinical literature is murky as these devices don’t have FDA approval, but most experts point to these devices providing no more than a ~50% temporary reduction. Further, these come with a much higher level of risk than lasers. If you have a darker skin tone, absolutely do not use any of the at home “laser hair removal” solutions.

How long does a laser hair removal session take?
Depending on the size of the area you are looking to treat, the laser portion is incredibly fast (typically only a few minutes for an XS area).
Is laser hair removal better than waxing?
Though laser hair removal typically costs more upfront than waxing, it is far more cost effective over the long term, less time intensive and less painful. Waxing does not provide permanent results. After waxing, treated hair will begin growing back to full density in approximately three weeks. Imagine never needing to pay for a wax or shave ever again.
Can I get laser hair removal if I have a tattoo?
Yes! As long as the area you are looking to treat is not covered by your tattoo, you can still enjoy the benefits of permanent hair reduction.
How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?
If you are at the beginning of your hair removal journey, we recommend that you buy a pack of 8 sessions for the area you are looking to treat. If you complete 8 sessions continuously with 4 - 6 week intervals (as recommended by your laser technician) you will see the best results. We are so confident in our process that we provide a lifetime guarantee and will provide touch-ups at no cost if you are still experiencing hair growth after 8 sessions.

How should I prepare for laser hair removal?
There are a few important items to keep in mind before getting laser hair removal. Firstly, avoid excessive sun exposure for the two weeks leading up to your appointment. Sun exposure makes laser hair removal less effective and increases the chances of complications, so make sure to avoid tanning your skin weeks prior. Secondly, stop plucking/ waxing/electrolysis before your appointment as these methods temporarily remove the hair’s root, which is targeted with the laser. We recommend wearing loose-fitting clothing the day of your appointment and to take a Tylenol in advance of your procedure (if you choose). Avoid taking aspirin and ibuprofen as this may cause light bruising after treatment. Finally, feel free to shave the treated areas before your procedure.

Can you get laser hair removal done in the summer?
Yes ! You can do laser hair removal year round, however, the area that will be lasered cannot have exposure to direct sunlight for at least two weeks in advance of your treatment. Laser hair removal can be tricky for legs and arms can be tricky for some in the summertime but bikini, underarms etc. are nice and easy.
Laser Tattoo Removal
What can I expect during my first laser tattoo removal treatment?
Before your laser tattoo removal session, your laser technician will determine which type of laser to use and how many treatments you will need. Before the lasering begins, you’ll be given protective eyewear and your technician will use our cryo device to numb your skin, reducing discomfort. Following this, your laser technician will gently place a handpiece against your skin and deliver laser pulses to your tattoo’s pigment. Customers typically liken the laser to a rubber band snapping against their skin. Depending on the size of your tattoo, this will only last a couple of minutes.
Does tattoo removal hurt?
With our next-gen Candela Picoway Laser & Zimmer Cryo devices, tattoo removal is no longer super stressful. This certainly isn’t a discomfort-free experience but it is a far-cry from the experience your mom warned you about when she warned you about getting your first tattoo. Most of our customers describe the laser as feeling like getting a light slap from a rubber band.
Is laser tattoo removal safe?
Under the care of the right practitioner, laser tattoo removal has a very high level of safety. The biggest risk comes from improper aftercare, but this can be easily avoided if you adhere to our aftercare instructions.
What device is used for laser tattoo removal?

This is not the tattoo removal your mother warned you about.
How permanent is laser tattoo removal?
Under the guidance of the right technician with the right laser, tattoos can be permanently removed.
Is laser tattoo removal safe & effective on dark skin?
Yes! Historically laser tattoo removal has been a risky and challenging endeavor for people of color. However, under the care of an experienced provider using the FDA cleared Candela Picoway device, tattoo removal is safe, effective, and most importantly - has extensive clinical validation. Any tattoo removal regardless of skin type can bring with it certain challenges but rest assured that we will work with you to determine the right solution for your unique tattoo removal or fading needs.
How long will my tattoo removal appointment be?
